The roots of this modern Art can be traced to 1650 AD and the Sosuishi Ryu Jujutsu. The Hoteikan San Do Ichi Ryu Jujutsu uses time-tested techniques from this Ryu, in addition to modified techniques that reflect the conditions and situations existing today
. The San Do Ichi Ryu Jujutsu accomplishes this through training in the following 10 principles:
1. Two-person Kata: Pre-arranged movements for technical proficiency. 2. Tai-Sabaki theory and application: The Art of body movement and evasion. 3. Awareness recognition and reaction: Situational understanding. 4. Joint locks and manipulation: Body control. 5. Strikes and kicks: Percussion techniques. 6. Strangulation techniques: The Art of restricting the airway and blood flow. 7. Combat Jujitsu throws: Precursor techniques of Judo. 8. Grappling and submissions: The Art of ground control. 9. Combat self-defense: Real-life situation defense. 10. Weapons defense: Modern and ancient weapons recognition and defense.
