The Hoteikan Karate Way Shotokan Karate Principles
We teach the Shotokan style of karate. This Art originated in Japan, and was founded by Funagoshi Sensei. This art is taught in most of its original form, with a modification of Bunkai techniques to coincide with modern-day situations and applied Jujitsu techniques.
. The Hoteikan Karate-Do program accomplishes this through training in the following principles:
1. Kata: Pre-arranged movements. 2. Stances: Designed to improve balance and stability. 3. Blocks: The Art of deflection. 4. Strikes and kicks: Percussion techniques. 5. Tai-Sabaki movement: The Art of body movement and evasion. 6. Bunkai training: Applied interpretation of Kata techniques. 7. One-step attacks: Pre-arranged defense to improve timing. 8. Free-style sparring: Light contact fighting utilizing techniques. 9. Competition training: Techniques and strategies for competition. 10. Combat self-defense applications: Real situational techniques for survival.
